A Hidden Gem

From our lake front porches we can see a high village with a gondola ride up the side of the mountain. Thanks to a little internet research we discovered the lake side town was Argenno and the village at the top was Pirga.  We made our way over there this morning and walked the short distance to the funicular.  For a very short fee, and absolutely no line or waiting, we ascended to the top of the mountain for spectacular views.   At the top there are eight different hiking trails, we chose one that wasn’t hiking as much as walking but brought us to a spot where we could see beyond Bellagio to the start of the other half of the lake.  There was even a fairy village on the trail.  We had a picnic at the top at a cute little spot in temperatures that were beyond glorious.  On our way back through town we found another beautiful playground, with a restaurant and bar on the side.  This playground beer concept may be one of my top favorite things about Italian culture.  The playground was weirdly surrounded by a lot of animal droppings, like livestock not dog, and I thought for sure someone was coming home smelling like poop, but they avoided it all and loved the zip line and climbers.  We got back today with a bit more time in the afternoon to relax and enjoy the water.

Will and I even walked to the closer grocery store alone for 20 minutes to get food for the night.  The woman who owns it threw in pastries when I mentioned five kids.  She also gave me some cheese when I asked for sliced roast beef because you needed that to make a sandwich she said. This place is amazing.
